A cent account shows your balance in US cents, so 10 USD appears as 1,000 cents and the smallest trade is a hundred times smaller than on a standard account. That makes it the sensible place to start with real money. If you are new to the idea, read what a cent account is first. Here we compare the cent accounts of the brokers we cover.

Why a cent account suits a small balance
With 20 USD and a 1% risk per trade you can lose 0.20 USD on a trade. On a standard account the smallest EUR/USD position moves about 0.10 USD per pip, so your stop could only be 2 pips away. On a cent account the smallest position moves about 0.001 USD per pip, so the same 0.20 USD allows a 200-pip stop. You can test the numbers in our position size calculator.
What to compare, besides the deposit
- The company and licence behind the account. Most cent accounts are offered by offshore companies; read our licence checks for HFM, Valetax, RoboForex and VT Markets.
- The spread. On small trades the spread is your main cost: 0.3 pips at Headway and JustMarkets against 1.1 to 1.2 pips at VT Markets and Valetax, according to their pages. Our trading costs guide explains why it matters.
- The platform. Cent accounts are usually on MT4 or MT5; check that the account you choose is on the platform you want. Our HFM MT5 guide shows the login steps.
- Withdrawals. Make a small test withdrawal early, before you add more money.
Our picks by situation
| If you want | Look at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The smallest possible start | Headway Cent | 1 USD minimum and 0.3-pip spreads on its own page |
| A well-known cent account with MT4 and MT5 | JustMarkets Standard Cent | 10 USD minimum, 0.3-pip spreads, balance shown in US cents |
| A large, long-running group | HFM Cent | Group licences confirmed in the UK, Cyprus and Seychelles; check which company holds your account |
| A cent account with many other account types | RoboForex ProCent | Part of a long-running group; treat it as offshore |
When to move up from a cent account
A cent account is a training ground, not a destination. Move to a standard account when you have followed your rules for a few months, your results are stable, and your balance is large enough to risk 1% per trade with normal stop distances. Our risk management guide shows how to decide.
